Nevada High Court to Consider Martinez-Guzman Case

The Nevada Supreme Court will consider a motion to dismiss the charges against a man accused in two murders in Douglas County. Wilber Martinez-Guzman is accused of killing Sophia Renken and Connie Koontz in their Gardnerville homes, and a Reno couple, Jerry and Sherri David, within a period of ten days in early January. He was indicted for all four murders by the Washoe County Grand Jury and the case is being jointly prosecuted by the district attorneys’ offices of both counties. Martinez-Guzman’s defense team argues that a Washoe County grand jury had no jurisdiction to indict their client on a case outside of Washoe County. Prosecutors say all the crimes are connected and cross jurisdictions. Martinez-Guzman’s trial is scheduled for April 2020.
