A record number of Nevadans filed new claims for unemployment benefits for a fifth straight week. More than 343,000 have, since casinos and other businesses closed in mid-March, to slow the spread of Covid 19. The almost 41,000 new unemployment applications reported Thursday by the U.S. Department of Labor brings shows that about 24% of the 1.43 million people working in Nevada in February filed for benefits since March 21.
