Chimney Fire Started by Squatters

A chimney fire at a home in Stead last night may have been caused by squatters. The fire on Hornblend Street was reported just after 7:30. Investigators say the fire was caused by non-traditional fire materials being burned in the fireplace. Crews sealed the house and contacted code enforcement to prevent the squatters from returning.MORE

Westbound I-80 Reopens After Mudslide

A mudslide closed westbound Interstate 80 at the California state line last night, it was reopened around 3:30 Thursday morning. The mudslide trapped three vehicles, but no one was injured. Caltrans worked through the night with scooper loaders and dump trucks to reopen the roadway. Eastbound traffic was not affected.MORE

A man has been arrested after police say he drove his car through an apartment building on Nichols Boulevard in Sparks.
