WSJ: Trump Advisers Float Fed Head Recommendations

On Thursday, economic advisers for former President Donald Trump held a meeting at his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida to discuss the future of the Federal Reserve, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Economists Steve Moore and Arthur Laffer presented Trump with a shortlist of candidates for the Federal Reserve leadership. The proposed candidates included Kevin Warsh, a former adviser to President George W. Bush and former Fed Board member; Kevin Hassett, former chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers under Trump; and Laffer, a former President Ronald Reagan adviser, who nominated himself.

Trump, who has criticized Fed Chair Jerome Powell, reportedly did not commit to any candidates. The search for Powell’s successor comes as his term ends in 2026. Outside groups are also proposing candidates, amid broader discussions on the Fed’s future role.
