(Truckee, CA) — Authorities are still searching for the one skier who remains missing after an avalanche near Donner Pass. Nevada County Sheriff Shannon Moon says eight other skiers have been found dead. The missing skier is presumed dead. It’s the deadliest avalanche in California history. Moon said 15 backcountry skiers were caught up in the avalanche on Tuesday. Six were later rescued. Because of extreme weather, it took search and rescue teams hours to reach the survivors and transport them. Officials say all six were suffering from various injuries.
